Batman
CompleteBatman's animated television history spans over 55 years (1968-present) with multiple series across different eras and styles. The franchise includes approximately 8 major television series totaling over 400 episodes, from Filmation's early Saturday morning adventures to the acclaimed DC Animated Universe. Unlike many classic cartoon franchises, nearly all Batman animated series have received complete physical media releases, making this one of the most collector-friendly superhero animation libraries.
The Adventures of Batman (1968-1969)
Filmation's first Batman series featured 17 episodes (34 segments) originally aired as part of The Batman/Superman Hour. Voice acting legends Olan Soule (Batman) and Casey Kasem (Robin) debuted in roles they would reprise for over a decade. All episodes available on DVD and Blu-ray, with a newly remastered Blu-ray release in February 2023.
The New Adventures of Batman (1977-1978)
Filmation's second Batman series reunited Adam West and Burt Ward from the iconic 1966 live-action series to voice their animated counterparts. This 16-episode series introduced the controversial character Bat-Mite. Complete series available on DVD (2007) and Blu-ray (June 2024).
Batman: The Animated Series (1992-1995)
The groundbreaking series that revolutionized superhero animation with its Film Noir-inspired "Dark Deco" art style. 85 episodes featuring Kevin Conroy's definitive Batman and Mark Hamill's legendary Joker. Winner of multiple Emmy Awards. Launched the DC Animated Universe (DCAU). Complete series available on DVD and Blu-ray, with a deluxe remastered Blu-ray set released in 2018.
The New Batman Adventures (1997-1999)
Continuation of Batman: The Animated Series with updated character designs to match Superman: The Animated Series. 24 episodes. Part of the DCAU. Complete series available on DVD; Blu-ray status varies by region.
Batman Beyond (1999-2001)
Futuristic reimagining set in 2039 with teenager Terry McGinnis as the new Batman under the mentorship of an elderly Bruce Wayne. 52 episodes across 3 seasons. Part of the DCAU. Complete series available on DVD and Blu-ray.
The Batman (2004-2008)
Complete reboot with a younger Batman and anime-influenced stylized animation. 65 episodes across 5 seasons. Introduced a new generation to Batman during the early-to-mid 2000s. Complete series available on DVD and Blu-ray.
Batman: The Brave and the Bold (2008-2011)
Lighter, Silver Age-inspired series focusing on team-ups with various DC heroes. 65 episodes across 3 seasons. Known for its humor, musical episodes, and celebration of obscure DC characters. All seasons available on DVD; complete series available on Blu-ray via Warner Archive (manufacture-on-demand).
Beware the Batman (2013-2014)
CGI-animated series featuring Katana as Batman's primary ally instead of Robin. 26 episodes, though the series had a troubled broadcast with episodes airing out of order and the final episodes moved to Adult Swim. Complete series available in two parts on DVD and Blu-ray (Warner Archive).
